Background

The University of Western Australia (UWA) was established in 1911 as the State’s first university. More than 100 years later, the University is now home to nine Faculties and Schools and a number of Research Institutions and Centres which celebrated the University’s Centenary in 2013. UWA has also entered the internationally-recognised Academic Ranking of World Universities’ Top 100 listing, continuing to set the standard for other West Australian universities to follow in terms of recognition for its achievements nationally and internationally.

The University continues to set the standard for other West Australian universities to follow in terms of recognition for its achievements nationally and internationally. For example: The consistently high entry (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) scores for UWA mean that the University’s undergraduate cohort is the most academically talented of any West Australian universities and generally is recognised as being of the highest quality in Australia. In a recent Federal Government ranking of the quality of Australian university research, ERA 2012, UWA is ranked higher than any other Western Australia university in the quality of its academic research and was the only Western Australia university ranked at or above the world average in all research areas.
